You can become quickly complacent about seeing Zebra, a bit like Impala. They are generally abundant. They are, nonetheless, unique animals.

The Grevy’s Zebra is endangered and found almost exclusively in Northern Kenya, in and around the Northern Rangelands. There are only about 3,000 left. They are stunning animals with thinner stripes that do not go under their belly, unlike Plains Zebra,

The Great Grevy’s Rally is a beautiful example of combining citizen science with advanced technology. Several hundred people collected 10’s of thousands of images which were then fed to computer vision algorithms that identified unique individual zebras using their strips as unique ids, just like human fingerprints. This has helped closely monitor the population of Grevy’s.
