Wildlife

Based on how many images I have taken, I have grouped animals by species, family, or class. Reptiles and Mammals (other) are Classes Iā€™d love to expand to more species, not to mention a whole Phylum (Echinoderms, Mollusks) and Kingdom (Fungi) where I have only one or a few images. Birds have a separate gallery simply because there are so many - and so many more I want to add.

All the species I have photographed are listed on my iNaturalist page. At present count, I have recorded observing 308 species. iNaturalist is a fantastic tool for tracking the species you have observed and learning about the taxonomy and other information about life on the planet as we all observe. Fifty-one (51) of the 308 species are threatened with extinction, according to the IUCN Red List. Twenty-one of them are endangered or critically endangered.

Not all the species I have photographed are included in this gallery. I have shared chiefly my better photos. I have shared lower-quality photos of animals rarely seen (e.g., elephant shrew) in a few cases. Most of these are nocturnal animals that are very exciting to see but challenging to photograph at high quality.

I gave the animal's location for each image and provided the name of the species except where the grouping is a single species, such as leopards and lions. I have photographed animals from 20 countries, over 40 parks, and protected areas on three continents. By far, most are from Africa.
