Antelopes, Goats, Sheep

Antelope, Goats, and Sheep are in the Bovid family, along with Buffalo and Bison. Bovids are in the Ruminants suborder like Deer, Giraffe, and Pronghorn.

Many people overlook antelope, yet I find them nearly as fascinating as birds. There are so many species and antelope subspecies that they are a fun challenge for a list-maker like me. Their variety is almost as incredible, though not as colorful. Their movement through the landscape, jumping, bounding, kicking, and hiding, is as beautiful as a bird in flight. The Antelope of Africa is a great book listing all the different antelope and detailed information about their status, range, and other information. Currently, I count 32 species or subspecies of African Antelope I’ve observed.
